In 1998 I created a series of spiral paintings. I placed sixteen canvases side by side in a squarish rectangular shape. Then I painted spirals across the canvases. Later I splattered paint on top of the lines. It also rained on the canvases. I went back and painted more spirals and again I splattered paint.

After all that I added a glaze of a single color over each canvas. To finish, I emphasized the lightest and darkest areas with white and neutrals respectively.

The pieces were completed for a group show. I chose titles from the Atlantic storm names list for the 1998 season. The day Hurricane Georges hit was the day of the reception. The show was taken down for safety reasons – the lobby has large glass windows. We had to go down and rehang the show. A reception was held a week later.

If the pieces were placed side by side, they would fit together like a
giant puzzle.
